The Advantages of Push Back Racking Systems

Push back racking is a highly efficient storage solution designed for warehouses that manage medium to
high inventory turnover with multiple pallets of the same product. Unlike traditional static racking
systems, push back allows for deep lane storage while maintaining accessibility and speeding up loading
and unloading operations. It uses a system of nested carts and inclined rails that enable pallets to be
stored several positions deep, with each new pallet pushing the previous one back.

One of the key benefits of push back racking is its space optimization. Because it allows for higher storage density than selective racking, it makes excellent use of the available square footage in a warehouse. This is especially valuable in facilities where space is limited or expensive. It also reduces the number of aisles required, freeing up room for more storage capacity or other operational needs.

The push back system follows the last-in, first-out (LIFO) principle, which makes it ideal for products
that do not require strict rotation based on arrival time. This is particularly useful for handling bulk items
or materials with longer shelf lives. The ability to store multiple SKUs in each lane, while still keeping
them easily accessible, adds flexibility to inventory management without sacrificing speed.

In terms of efficiency, push back racking significantly reduces forklift travel time. Operators load and
retrieve pallets from the same side, eliminating the need to drive through aisles to reach back positions.
This streamlines operations, increases throughput, and reduces wear and tear on equipment. Additionally, because pallets automatically move forward as the front ones are removed, handling
becomes quicker and smoother.

Another important advantage is safety. Push back racking systems are designed to maintain load stability and reduce the need for deep entry into the racking structure. This decreases the risk of accidents, pallet damage, and operator fatigue. Combined with the robust construction of these systems, this contributes to a safer and more durable storage environment.
